About Ariadne

Ariadne is a music publishing house founded by Roman Haubenstock-Ramati, a pioneer of graphic notation. We are based in Vienna, Austria, celebrating 45 years of existence this year. Although small in scale, Ariadne has helped a number of contemporary Austrian and European composers to an international breakthrough. Our idea of music is broad, challenging the concepts of notation and genre and paving the way for exploring the intersections of music and other art forms anew.

While graphic notation was the starting point, our authors have brought in ideas that made us take unexpected turns. At the same time, they have considerably shaped how the music of their time sounded like: Boguslaw Schaeffer, Jakob Ullmann, Georg Friedrich Haas, Clemens Gadenstätter or Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky and others are names well-known in Austria as well as in Europe. Our catalog encompasses solo works, chamber music, works for large ensembles as well as stage pieces.

Making our music sound on the podium has been equally important to us. Collaborations with Salzburger Festspiele, wien modern, Opernhaus Graz, Vienna State Opera, Klangforum Wien (co-founded in 1985 by Ariadnes managing director, Viktor Liberda) turned into successful projects and have been published on disc by col legno, ORF or under our own label.

We opened a sheet music webshop in February 2018. Here you can find more information.
